Web 2.0 defintions

Defintions under the "comment" option

  1. User-generated content is when something online is produced, posted, or written by the general public and not by a professional or expert. An example would be blogs.

    Long tail has to do with retail and the selling of items in small quantities, using a niche strategy.

    Network as a platform- media and various applications created on the web.

    Folksonomy- the method of organizing information from the web into categories, done by a group of users.

    Syndication- a website’s content can be accessed by other websites.

    Mass collaboration- a collective action performed by a large group of people. This can include the sharing of ideas and progress online, etc.

    Computer supported collaboration- When the focus of research is on technology that is being used by groups of people and is affecting societies.

    Hosted services- provides businesses, organizations, and individual people with the opportunity to create their own webpage and make it available for others to view online

    Web applications- an application that is made accessible via a web browser over the internet.

    Video-sharing sites- Sites where people can post videos (that the online public can watch) made by themselves or others. Example: YouTube.

    Wikis- Websites that people can easily edit and post to.

    Blogs- A website that an individual designs and posts entries to. Can act like an online diary.

    Mashups- a blend of media. A specific example would be a song made by blending two other songs and using “overlay.”
